The Problem

Ammonia compressors drive the refrigeration cycle that chills your beer shortly after brewing to keep it as fresh as possible. Before our Watchman Lubrication System was designed, we provided “Lubemation” panels downstream of the existing mechanical lubricators for customers like Anheuser-Busch.

In 1984, Anheuser-Busch had us install five Watchman Lubrication Systems on Clark CLRA ammonia compressors at its Columbus, Ohio, facility. Twenty-five years later, these systems are still in operation. Based on the success of those installations, Sloan Brothers was asked to supply similar systems for Anheuser-Busch’s Jacksonville, Florida, brewery. Six Watchman Lubrication Systems and a complement of recommended spares were installed on those compressors with great success.

The Solution

The Watchman Lubrication System provides fully automatic, accurate and fail-safe lubrication to the compressor cylinders and rod packing. Less oil is needed since delivery is protected, and waste oil is reduced. Additionally, an automatic replenishment system was eventually installed to eliminate the need for hand filling. Less frequent compressor overhauls have saved money, time and energy. Compressor operations and maintenance have also greatly improved, and the Watchman Lubrication Systems have required almost no maintenance.

The Result

After 20 years of outstanding performance, the six Jacksonville Watchman Lubrication Systems received a simple, seamless upgrade that will keep Anheuser-Busch ammonia compressors running smoothly for another 20 years — or more!
